A friend, who is older, had been living under low income and not having to pay federal income taxes. In 2007, she took a large disbursement from an annuity and had to pay high taxes on it. Following this, the IRS wanted her to pay estimated tax payments throughout 2008. She did. However, she took no distributions and owes no taxes for 2008….so how does she get back the money she paid in estimated payments throughout 2008.

How can I get my life back on track?
Sorry if this may be a bit dramatic…
I feel like my life is over already, and I’m only 24. I am a complete loser, and my hopelessness has occasionally even made me feel suicidal lately. I used to be so motivated in my life to succeed, and in undergrad I achieved a really high GPA and was able to land some pretty good jobs after college. I feel like the turning point was about a year and a half ago, when I broke up with my long term bf… I hadn’t ever had a chance to really be single as an adult, and I just went wild. Since then I spent almost every night partying and all I cared about was booze, drugs, and random sex. It led to me dropping out of grad school (I was able to somehow get a medical withdrawal, but still, it looks pathetic) and I moved back in with my mom because I was in so much debt. But this still didn’t stop me from dumbly continuing to make having fun my #1 priority, up until about last month.
So now I am about a week away from losing my current temporary job contract (which is already several notches below the jobs I used to have), and have been rejected from the postbaccalaureate program I just applied to (a program with an embarrassingly high acceptance rate). I feel like I have completely dropped the ball in my life and I don’t know how to get my shit together again, because no schools will accept me anymore and I am a weak job candidate in such a bad economy. And I can’t be unemployed or just doing nothing, because I absolutely have to have health insurance due to a chronic serious disease. Until I’m 25, I can still qualify under my dad’s insurance as long as I’m a student, so I have been taking classes at the local junior college lately. It was the worst feeling in the world when some 19 year old in one of my classes asked “What are you doing here?” after I mentioned I had a bachelor’s degree. I didn’t even know what to say. It doesn’t help that literally ALL my friends are in good-paying successful jobs or grad school.
Now that I know I’m losing my job in a few days, I’ve been totally freaking out. In the last month I’ve completely stopped partying and have been taking steps to be responsible again. But I feel like I did so much damage to my life by making all these idiotic choices that it’s impossible to come back to what my potential used to be. Has anyone else ever experienced this kind of downturn into loserville, and somehow got out of it? I am so scared that I’m going to be a loser forever, and I don’t even know where to start with fixing my life. I know that this is all my fault and I probably deserve this, so I really don’t need anyone telling me “Yeah, you’re a failure, what were you thinking”. I already know that and kick myself every day for this. But I just want to hear if anyone else has any experience/insight on getting your life back on track.

Title company didn’t catch my back taxes. Who is liable?
I owed taxes for 2 years and refinanced 3 months ago to pay them. However, when sheriff came beating down my door saying my house would be sold due to back taxes today, I looked at settlement sheet–the taxes were never paid! Essentially, this is my debt, and even though my mortgage company was dishonest, why didn’t the title company catch it? I made the mistake of not checking the settlement sheet carefully (refi closing was at 10:30pm). I called title company and a rep said that he received notice of the back taxes but called someone at the county office who told him verbally no taxes were owed. I have title insurance. Can I get the title company to pay?
Dividends in a mutual funds/ETF are distribute to the shareholders or back to the funds?
Dividends in a mutual funds/ETF are distribute to the shareholders or back to the funds?
Do we get to invest the dividends or the dividends are automatically reinvested in to the funds, hence you own more shares of the funds? Lastly, I was told I should invest tax inefficient funds into my IRA rather than tax efficient funds. Can someone give me some comparisons?
In the divorce is the judge likely to order back child support? Texas?
My husband left over a year ago he was paying me some child support at first about 3 payments. Then he stopped. I have not received anything since Jan 2009. I started an AG case but since my husband did not keep a regular visitation schedule, I let the case go because I have grounds for asking for a structured settlement due to my husbands background and he’s only seen his son aprox. 12 hours this past year. I’d rather a family court judge set a visitation schedule vs. the A.G. judge… The divorce will be this year. If I ask the family court judge for back support, is he/she likely to order it?

How much should I expect back as a tax return?
In 2007 I made about 15,000 from work got a settlement which 34,000 went to medical bills, 24,000 went to me for damages, and 20,000 Went to my lawyers fees. I had no insurance when the bills got paid and all medical bills were paid by my lawyers. How much of my medical bills and/ or lawyers fees will come back in my tax return?
How can you get withholding back from IRA rollover?
My son’s friend had a retirement plan at work, (a SEP, I think) and left his job. The AG Edwards broker’s assistant called and told him he had to take the money if he wasn’t going to add to it anymore. The kid didn’t know his options and got a check, minus 20% withholding and another 10% for the early withdraw penalty. He then endorsed the checks and put them into his regular IRA as a rollover. I know the rollover isn’t taxable, but what about the 30% that was sent to the IRS? American Funds said it’s too late to get it back from them. Please help. Thanks.
