What is the difference between whole life and term life insurance policies?

My husband wants to take out an insurance policy on himself for our family due to the fact that he is the primary source of income. We have been researching life insurance policies..what is the difference between whole and term life? My husband is 8 years older than me so he wants to make sure that myself and our children are taken care of in the event of his death.

CAN SOME PLEASE THE DIFF. BETWEEN TERM LIFE INSURANCE OR REGULAR LIFE.?

Also is it better to just by a plot burial and lock in the rates today, my job does not offer life insurance and i would like some type of reassurance for my family if i were to die. I’m in the 25-35 yr range group, can anyone suggest polices or explain them altogether!

1. In both cases I can invest only after tax money.
2. I can withdraw my money whenever I want in both cases.
3. I can only contribute $5,000 per year in the roth IRA while I can contribute how much I want with a normal investment account.

So why would I choose to open a roth IRA instead of a normal investment account where I can invest how much I want?

I opened a money markey IRA, and was going to converit it to a Roth IRA (im 23) and have rolled my $3,500 from my 401K into my new IRA. When will I have to pay taxes on my $3,500 and when will I pay taxes on my new contributions? Im not sure if I should keep the money market, or change to the Roth. Thanks!

I am 29 years old, in good health and a non-smoker. We just added a new baby boy to our family and I wanted to get a good life insurance plan. I can’t decide between 20 year and 30 year policies- the 30 year is about 1.5 times more expensive a year than the 20 year plan. Any advice?

I have been contributing to a Travelers (now owned by Metlife) tax deferred annuity 403(b). The performance has not been good. Their investment choices are not listed by Morningstar, so I can’t research them to determing the best funds that they have available. Can I transfer my account to a different company or different plan type such as 457(b) or 403(b)7? Which one is best. Also, my employer lists the following companies to choose from:

457(b): Citistreet, Northwestern Mutual Financial, Valic

403(b) and 403(b)7:
Citistreet, Horace Mann, Lincoln National, Metlife, Merrill Lynch, Mutual of America, Prudential

Should I switch to one of these companies?

I appreciate anyone who can answer any part of these questions.

I received a form 1099-B from my fund manager that described the movement as an “EXCHANGE”, however, there was a subsequent movement of the same funds to a different fund that did not appear on the 1099-B. Since these were truly exchanges rather than distributions, are they taxable? All of these funds are within the same account, and the account is not an IRA.

Our company has to decide between going through ADP which can offer us 130 mutual funds that are “a” shares or Transamerica which is an insurance product or group annuity.

The monthy fee to administer the 401k with ADP (they do our payroll too so it supposed to be easier) is $90 per month. Expense ratios range from .75% to 1.5% depending on which mutual fund.

The fees with the Transamerica product has $50 per month in fees but we have to commit for several years and there are surrender charges. Also the sales guy said there are no “hidden fees” From reading online that sounds like he may be lying.

Anybody have any experience with these?

I spent 3 years, 9 months and 10 days on active duty (was released 3 months early for graduate school) That gives me on my retirement printout 1371 retirement points.

Then, I joined the guard and received another 164. Total retirement points 1535 for a total 5 “good” years.

However, I also did some correspndence corses which I was told to turn in to the retirement person which shows up on my printout as “ACCP Misc Points” and is added to the “Total Career Points” column–NOT the “Total Points for Retirement Pay” column.

Question–what is the difference between “career points” and “retirement points?” If career points are not calculted for retirement pay, what are they good for?
To the one responder so far–I am sure you know what you are talking about–however, I have no idea what “non-retirement bond” means.

I read in Business Weekly that pension funds, university endowments, and other big investors invest in hedge funds and private equity funds. An accompanying graph shows that private equity funds had much higher returns than hedge funds in 2006 and 2007, but also greater losses in 2008. What is the difference between the two? Do they invest in different products? If not, on what base would a pension fund choose whether to invest in one or the other? Thank you!

I want to buy a Term Life Ins Policy for the purpose of leaving some money for my kids once I’m gone. I am a healthy 55 yr old fem. I’m considering a $250K policy. For a 20-year term it is $59.72/mo. For a 30-term it is $198.52/mo. Let’s assume that I will live beyond the 30 yrs. At that time I will have to buy another term or convert to whole life, and most likely have to get another med exam (at age 75 or 85). Which term policy would be cheaper in the long run? I am considering a smaller policy ($100K) for 30 years at $92/mo to save money. What should I do?
