maybe, maybe not. An index usually is a good investment in the long run but in the short run it might not.. especially with this type of economy..

absolutely not!!! read up as much as you can on fixed annuities! I don’t like them . High commissions and surrender charges ! But if you must ,consider a variable annuity from vanguard Mutual funds . Lowest expense and no surrender charges . Good Luck!

Are you asking if a 67 year old should buy annuities? Never. In the fine print there is a general wait period before there is no penalties. Generally that wait time is around 30 years! The person would be 97 before they could collect.
Other problems:
Who knows what will happen in 30 years. That company could go out of business in 30 years. Who knows where the investment will wind up or even if it still will exist.
Annuities give low interest yet high fees. How do they guarentee the rate? They buy government bonds and it’s the government that’s insuring the annuities. A person is better off buying I-bonds or TIPS (another type of government bond indexed to inflation). The person gets the same rate, same guarantees no fees and there are far less penalties.

In general, ” annuities” are ” dirty words” to investors. I would rather invest my own money into a monthly ” dividend paying” company… I buy a certain amount…and I know what to expect every month. Look at companies like HTE, PWE or some commercial REITs.
